Research project: New mothers: discourses of motherhood and consumption (Phase 2)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced researcher for a period of 12 months to join the second phase of a project investigating women's transition to motherhood, discourses of motherhood and consumption. The first (completed) phase of the research project involved data collection i.e. a quasi-longitudinal approach when nearly fifty women were interviewed twice: firstly in the latter stages of pregnancy and secondly in the early months of motherhood. This second phase of the project is concernedpartlywith the analysis of the dataset butmainlywith the writing up of findings for publication.

You will work on a variety of aspects relating to the project, with your principal duties including some analysis of the dataset but concentrating mainly on the writing up of the findings for publication. You should either have completed or be about to complete a PhD in a relevant social science subject. Whatever your background, you should be well-versed in qualitative methodologies. A thorough working knowledge and understanding of the social science literature and associated debates on mothering, discourses and consumption is an essential prerequisite for this post.

You will work under the supervision of Fulgoni Professor Margaret K. Hogg; and liaise with Dr Emma Banister (Manchester Business School) who is the co-PI on the project.
