A postdoctoral position is available in a newly forming laboratory in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at the Yale University School of Medicine.

The Bindra laboratory has two major research focus areas: (1) Understanding the molecular determinants of double-strand break (DSB) repair pathway choice, and (2) High-throughput screening for novel chemo- and radio-sensitizers.

With regard to the basic science research focus area (1), we are interested in studying the protein interactions and chromatin changes at DSBs during different phases of the cell cycle, and also in response to various external signaling events. In particular, novel techniques will be developed and utilized to interrogate the chromatin directly at site-specific DSBs.

For the translational research focus area (2), we will use several high-content, cell-based assays in a series of high-throughput compound screens to identify novel small molecules that disrupt keyDNArepair pathways. Compounds then will be tested for their ability to synergize with ionizing radiation and/or chemotherapeutics in vitro and in vivo. These studies will be performed in close collaboration with Yale’s High-Throughput Cell Biology facility.

The currently available position offers a unique opportunity for exposure to both basic science and translational research, in the context of a rapidly growing laboratory in a stimulating research environment. Applicants should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D./Ph.D., with a firm grasp of key techniques in molecular biology, and an interest in cancer biology.
