A Postdoctoral position is available in the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. The position is a part of the project “Nonlinear phenomena in polariton and exciton superfluids”, aiming at theoretical and numerical research in the field of optics/condensed matter physics. The position is available for up to 4 years.

In 2006, Bose-Einstein condensation of polaritons, quasiparticles composed of photons and excitons, was demonstrated in a semiconductor microcavity. Few years later, signatures of a condensate were observed at room temperature. Interesting prospects for applications of this phenomenon, until then limited to ultracold experiments, were created. The project aims at theoretical and numerical study and understanding of nonlinear effects in polariton and exciton superfluids. It will also propose experiments that would verify the theoretical models, and outline directions for potential applications, with particular emphasis on optoelectronics and spintronics. The project will be realized in Quantum Optics Group, which has extensive experience in theory of ultracold Bose-Einstein condensates. Research will be carried out in collaboration with leading theoretical and experimental groups.

Profile of candidates:
1. PhD degree (or PhD thesis submitted),
2. Strong background in a related field demonstrated by publications,
3. Experience in numerical modelling,
4. Ability to work in a team as well as independently,
5. Fluent spoken and written English.

The successful candidate will receive salary from the Institute and an additional salary component from the project. The Institute provides additional benefits including bonuses. The total average net salary will be about 4700-5000 PLN per month for up to 4 years (with extension possible). Health insurance and full social insurance will be also covered. There are no teaching duties.
