Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering conducts academic research in the fields of electronics and electrical engineering, automation and systems technology, radio science and engineering, signal processing and acoustics, communications and networking, and micro- and nanosciences. Moreover, the school hosts the Metsähovi Radio Observatory.

Marie Curie Experienced Researcher in Damping of Power Systems

This Experienced Researcher (ER) position is offered by the REAL-SMART Consortium. The post will be with the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Espoo, Finland.

The fellowship is part of the REAL-SMART which is a Marie Curie FP7 Industry Academia Pathways and Partnerships project (IAPP) on measurement-based monitoring and management of high voltage transmission grids. The ten Consortium Partners include transmission system operators, companies that supply technologies, and universities. The consortium is interdisciplinary with experts in electrical power systems, modeling, instrumentation, signal analysis and condition monitoring, and automation of oil & gas and chemical processes.

The tasks of the post will be to:

* Independently and as part of a research team carry out research in the field of damping control of electro-mechanical oscillations in power systems, especially with wind power

* Analysis of control systems of wind generators and converters on damping of electromechanical oscillation by using the Finnish PMU-measurements for analyses, and power system models for simulations

* Developing and testing different control algorithms in different operating conditions of the power system

* Publish the results in leading scientific journals and conferences

You should have an internationally recognized PhD degree (or equivalent). The ideal candidate would have research interests in one or more of the following: transmission systems, damping of electromechanical oscillations, wind power, control systems. We are looking for communication skills and an interest in lively interaction within the research group of transmission systems and in collaboration with the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj. Applicants are required to have fluency in English.

To comply with Marie Curie funding conditions, candidates must have at least four years but less than ten years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the years spent on PhD studies, and must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies) in Finland for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to the date of appointment.

This program offers a fifteen-month full-time position as a researcher with a salary and allowances according to EU regulations for Marie Curie Experienced Researchers. For an Experienced Researcher at Aalto in Finland, the annual salary will be approximately between 55700–59800 euro. The salary depends on the age and marital status of the researcher and includes both living and mobility allowances.
