Postdoctoral Scientist – Cell Signalling Group

Job Ref: PI/11/34
Salary in the range of £28,500 – £38,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience
3 year fixed term contract

The Paterson Institute is a leading cancer centre of excellence core-funded by Cancer Research UK and is an Institute of The University of Manchester.

A position is available in the laboratory of Angeliki Malliri for an ambitious, highly skilled and creative post-doctoral scientist to investigate the regulation of the Rho-like GTPase Rac1 as well as its activator Tiam1 by post-translational modifications and the influence of such modifications on cell migration, invasion and cell–cell adhesion.

You should have a PhD and background in biochemistry, cell biology or molecular biology and be highly motivated to pursue a career in biomedical research.

Recent publications from our lab include:

1. Castillo-Lluva et al. (2010) SUMOylation of the GTPase Rac1 is required for optimal cell migration. Nature Cell Biology 12, 1078-1085.

2. Woodcock et al. (2010) Tiam1-Rac signalling counteracts Eg5 during bipolar spindle assembly to facilitate chromosome congression. Current Biology 20, 669-675.

3. Rooney et al. (2010) The Rac activator STEF (Tiam2) regulates cell migration by microtubule-mediated focal adhesion disassembly. EMBO Rep. 11, 292-298.

4. Woodcock et al. (2009) Src-Induced Disassembly of Adherens Junctions Requires Localized Phosphorylation and Degradation of the Rac Activator Tiam1. Molecular Cell 33, 639–653.
