A Research position at a postdoctoral level is immediately available for a creative, self-motivated researcher in a multidisciplinary project with a role to implement nanoscale to micron-scale models of materials and dynamics at the material interfaces. The project involves large-scale, atomistic simulations in our in-house parallel computing environment to address applied research problems with ties to industry and federal research organizations. Individuals with strong research accomplishments in classical and quantum mechanical atomistic simulations are encouraged to apply.
Only applicants who are currently in the U.S. and meet the following minimum qualifications will be considered for the position: • A very recent Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C++/FORTRAN, numerical modeling using MATLAB or similar tools, and working experience in compiling and running programs in Linux cluster environment is required • Experience with density functional theory of solids using a code such as VASP and exposure to classical methods such as force-field based molecular dynamics simulation or kinetic Monte Carlo simulation is preferred • Exposure to research related to materials such a metals, alloys, polymers, and composites with basic background in their microstructure, mechanical response, and basics of continuum scale modeling of materials and fluids is a plus • Graduate or recent post-graduate experience at a U.S. Academic Institution or National Laboratory • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Good judgment, clear sense of purpose, and accountability
The ability and interest to pursue challenging, interdisciplinary problems, and the ability to deliver proof-of-concept results are essential.
